In large-scale commercial buildings with high-traffic areas, there may be as many as 5000 aisles a day.
In public buildings with high traffic, the entrance mat system brings measurable benefits.
A proper system of entrance mats helps to improve the air quality in the room, improve the acoustics, extend the shelf life of the materials used to make the floor in the interior, and reduce cleaning and maintenance costs.
Only the right determination of what entrance mat is needed will guarantee all the benefits of the solution. The type and size of the mat depends on traffic, building use, the building's environment, and many other factors.
Functionality The size, material and density of the mat affect its durability, the ability to absorb water and remove dirt - the greater the capacity, the better. Polyamide polypropylene fibers are strong and durable, thanks to which they withstand brushing and scrubbing, and crease-resistant, which means that they retain their structure even at entrances with a large surface and traffic. Wrinkle-resistant mats are more durable and retain their appearance and functionality for longer in heavy traffic conditions.
Polyamide is extremely absorbent and also stain resistant
For scrubbing, cleaning and drying to be effective, the soles should touch the mat at least three times. As a rule, it is assumed that after the first 2 meters, the appropriate textile surface catches 42% of water and dirt, after 4 meters - up to 65%, and after 6 meters - up to 90%.
LEED also recommends using permanent entry systems with a length of at least 3 meters (min. 1.8 meters in previous LEED versions).
Wet, slippery surfaces are dangerous. When it rains or snows, the entrances quickly become wet. Smaller or unsuitable mats soak quickly, making things worse.
Very dirty mats allow spreading blemishes inside buildings. Entrance mats should have a higher absorption rate to properly dry shoes. The ability to absorb 4 to 6 liters of water per square meter is suitable for areas with very heavy traffic. The entrances also become the main exits during a fire or other emergency.
Because fire protection requirements differ depending on the type of building, type of entrance and type of entrance mat system, when choosing an entrance mat system, it is worth getting acquainted with the guidelines of the fire department.
The entrance should be accessible to everyone, especially in public buildings and shops. According to the architectural design guidelines, the entrances must be suitable for people using wheelchairs and mobility aids. The floor surface should be wheelchair-friendly, protect against tripping and remove water from wheels and soles so that floors in the building are not slippery.
Entrance mats and mats laid in niches must lie flush with the floor surface, and any differences between floor level and mat should not exceed 6-12 mm (¼ "to ½").
Carpets should have a low fleece and be non-directional to ensure wheelchairs and crutches pass easily over wheelchairs.
Avoid coconut mats with deep undergrowth and excessively fluted carpets.
Ideally, the gully frame in the main entrance should be the same width as the entrance. Maintaining effectiveness depends on cleaning and proper maintenance.
The entrance mats perform their function optimally when they are regularly cleaned. They combine brushing, vacuuming and the extraction method, you can extend the life of the mat.
Permanently installed mats should be regularly maintained and thoroughly cleaned to remove germs that could otherwise be spread around the building.
The maintenance plan should include daily vacuuming of the surface, especially in high-traffic areas that prevent dirt from accumulating and rubbing into the mat. Weekly brushing improves the effects of vacuuming, loosening the fibers and facilitating access to dirt underneath.
Brushing also facilitates the access of air to the fibers, which speeds up drying.
Monthly shampooing with the extraction method cleans the fibers and removes all the remaining ones
Entrance mats are produced in rolls of approximately 20 meters in length. The Notrax® production team prepares each Notrax® product to order, according to the exact dimensions given by
customer. Almost all products can be adjusted in terms of length and finish, including chamfered edges to match the mat.
On request, we can also prepare typical shapes: circles, crescents and arches. All custom-made mats can be supplied with accessories such as bevelled edges or velcro tape to connect in width.
