How to protect paving from damage? Road plates are the solution

When it comes to protecting endangered pavements, there are many solutions available. However, one of the best is plastic road plates.

Plastic road plates are versatile - they are not just a temporary hardening of the ground at the entrance to a construction site. They also work well as protection for sensitive pavements.

The multitude of applications is one of the many advantages of plastic road plates. The old towns of most cities in Poland are characterised by historic cobblestones in addition to historic compact buildings. However, many times modernisation works are carried out, during which heavy construction equipment has to enter the very centre. This was the case during the redevelopment of the Stefan Żeromski Theatre in Kielce. At the time, an economical solution was sought that would provide adequate protection for the pavement.

The Model 200 road plates proved their worth. Thanks to their low weight - only 37 kg - they are easy to

Historic paving is an important part of every city's culture, but it can also be a logistical nightmare for construction companies. When working in the city centre, there are often narrow streets and limited space, making it difficult for heavy equipment to move through the area.

In Kielce, Poland, the Theatre building was a challenge for the construction company responsible for its revitalisation. More than 3,500 cubic metres of rubble had to be transported through the narrow, historic streets - a task that required special protection for both vehicles and pedestrians.

The company chose road slabs made of recycled plastic with a thickness of 2 cm. The strength of these slabs is equivalent to 50 tonnes per square metre on dry ground. Specially designed overlaps further minimise slippage, reducing mud from under the wheels and helping to ensure safe passage for all vehicles.

Protecting historic paving from deterioration is a complex process. Several steps need to be followed to achieve this goal:

Firstly, the right paving material must be chosen. In Kielce, more than 400 pieces of vibration 200 slabs have been used.

This is an excellent alternative to concrete, aluminium or wooden road plates.

When using the slabs, it is extremely important to observe the speed limit - 10 km/h. This will prevent damage and prolong the life of the boardwalk.

The second step is to install it correctly. First, lay out all the boards so that they are evenly spaced and there are no gaps between them. This will ensure that they are secure and prevent cracks from forming over time, which can lead to other problems later down the road, such as drainage problems or even worse things such as mould growth!

The slabs were laid on both sides: the lower overlaps were designed for pedestrian traffic, while the higher overlaps were designed for vehicular traffic.

In Kielce, due to the predominance of car traffic in this area of the city, it was decided that the road slabs would be laid with higher tabs.
